Overhead Travelling Crane (OHTC)

Delegates will gain practical experience in operating an overhead travelling crane, supported by essential theory. The course also provides knowledge and skills on safe slinging and signalling practices, ensuring participants can carry out lifting operations safely. Delivered on-site across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, the wider South Yorkshire region, and across the UK. This training equips teams with the competence to handle overhead crane operations effectively while maintaining compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and HSE regulations.


Course Content

  • HASAWA, LOLER and PUWER: Understand the legal framework, employer and employee responsibilities, and safe working practices
  • Safe slinging practices: Hands-on training in rigging loads correctly using slings, chains, and lifting accessories
  • Routine lift planning: Awareness of lift preparation and assessment 
  • Load estimation: Understanding weight and its impact on safe lifting
  • Pre-use checks: Inspect crane, slings, chains, and lifting accessories before use
  • Safe use of lifting equipment: Operation of the overhead travelling crane.

Course duration: 2 days

Lifting and Slinging

Delegates will gain practical experience in lifting loads using lifting equipment, and how to sling loads safely - supported by essential theory. They will also learn the role of the signaller and how to communicate effectively with crane operators during lifting operations. Delivered on-site across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, the wider South Yorkshire region, and across the UK. This course ensures participants understand safe lifting practices, compliance requirements, and how to support smooth, efficient lifting operations.

LOLER Awareness

Give your supervisors and managers the knowledge they need to oversee lifting operations safely with LOLER Awareness training from Next Level Safety. Refresher

Refresher training is available for all lifting operations courses, including Overhead Travelling Crane and Lifting and Slinging . Delegates must have recent practical experience and a good level of prior knowledge to complete the course successfully.
